Honorary graduates

Sylvain Chomet

Sylvain Chomet

Born in France, Mr Chomet is an internationally renown animator and director. He lovingly put Scotland and Edinburgh on screen in the 2010 animated hit The Illusionist.

During the five year production he lived and worked in the city, assembling a large group of animators in studios on George Street. The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2011 Academy Awards.

Mr Chomet first rose to international prominence with Belleville Rendez-vous. Released in 2003, his first animated feature film attracted two Oscar nominations.

Since the completion of The Illusionist Mr Chomet has settled back in his native France. He is currently working on a new live action feature.

Two free screenings of The Illusionist will be held at The French Institute, on 27 and 28 November, to coincide with Mr Chomet's visit.
