ARRIVING AT HERIOT-WATT

The meeting will take place in the James Watt Centre. 

You are advised to make your way to the entrance of the James Watt Centre.   This is the large tower-shaped entrance which you will see as you approach by bus or taxi on the main driveway – it will be clearly sign-posted for TIES 2016.

 

REGISTRATION

REGISTRATION FOR THOSE STAYING ON THE HERIOT-WATT CAMPUS

For those staying on the Heriot-Watt campus, there will be a cold buffet supper between 18.00 and 20.00 on Sunday 17 July in the College Lounge and you are encouraged to register at that time.  Alternatively, you may register between 08.30 and 09.00 on Monday 18 July in the foyer of the James Watt Centre.   However, please note that this registration period will be busy as those staying off-campus will also be registering at that time.

 

REGISTRATION FOR THOSE STAYING OFF CAMPUS

Please register between 08.30 and 09.00 on Monday 18 July in the foyer of the James Watt Centre entering by the tower-shaped entrance from the main driveway.  

 

PRESENTATIONS

FOR SPEAKERS - SUBMITTING YOUR TALK

If you are giving an oral talk on the Monday, you are asked to submit your talk at Registration.  For detailed instructions on how to submit your talk at Registration, please refer to the “Info for Presenters” section of the TIES 2016 website.  The title of your talk should be your own last name.  

If you are giving an oral talk on any other day of the meeting, you are asked to submit your talk at least one full day prior to the date of the talk.  Again, detailed instructions on how to submit your talk at Registration, are available on the “Info for Presenters” section of the TIES 2016 website.   The title of your talk should be your own last name.  

 

FOR POSTER PRESENTERS - SUBMITTING YOUR POSTER

You are asked to submit your poster between 08.30 and 09.00 on Monday 18 July.  For detailed instructions on how to submit your poster, please refer to the poster information contained on the “Info for Presenters” section of the TIES 2016 website.  

 

FACILITIES AT HERIOT-WATT

LUGGAGE STORAGE

The Gibson Rooms (in the James Watt Centre) will be available on both Monday 18 and Friday 22 July for luggage storage.  Please note that all luggage must be removed from the Gibson Rooms as soon as possible at the end of the conference and by 15.00 at the very latest.     

BANK

There are several ATMs on the campus.

SHOP

The student shop sells snacks and stationery.  

CATERING

Lunch will provided to conference participants every day and there will be refreshment breaks morning and afternoon. These will all be served in The Foyer in the James Watt Centre. On Tuesday evening there will be a drinks reception during the Poster Session. Following the Poster Session there will be haggis, neeps and tatties available as well as the opportunity to try some traditional Scottish dancing. Coffee and tea facilities are available in the bedrooms for residents.   However, there is no access to the kitchen facilities in the Christina Miller building.

On campus you will find the Café Brio and the Piece sandwich bar serving snacks (sandwiches, paninis, coffee etc). There isn’t a bar on campus, however, the Café Biro facility is open in the evenings until 20.00.  It serves bottle beer and wine alongside Costa Coffee and a range of snacks.  Walking from the campus to Currie, you will find the Riccarton Arms public house on the main road. Otherwise, there is a frequent, regular bus service into Edinburgh City Centre.  You Rewards Passport leaflet will provide discounts and certain outlets.

SPORTS FACILITIES

For those staying on-campus:  Residents can use the Oriam Centre (previously the Centre for Sport and Exercise) facilities.   If interested please go to the Oriam reception (opposite the conference centre).  You will need to take your room key and the charge per visit is 4.20  GBP.

For non-resident delegates:  Non-resident delegates may use the Oriam Centre by showing proof (ie. your name badge with the TIES logo) that you are an attendee at the conference.   The charge is 4.20 GBP per visit.
