Theatre Studies

About us

Edinburgh is world famous for theatre and performance and provides a stimulating backdrop to those who come to the University to study our live theatre based degrees, MSc in Theatre and Performance Studies and the MSc in Playwriting.

Edinburgh is home to many beautiful theatres including The King’s Theatre, The Lyceum, The Playhouse and the Edinburgh Festival Theatre - and of course annually hosts the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which showcase some of the most innovative and experimental theatre each year in over 300 locations in and around the city.

Scotland's major new writing theatre, the Traverse Theatre, offers courses for young writers, with the opportunity of having your play performed.

The University-owned Pleasance Societies' Centre is one of the Festival's prime comedy venues while the Edinburgh University Theatre Company (EUTC) operates the only student-run theatre in Britain, the Bedlam Theatre, where you can try your hand at acting, directing, producing, stage-managing, or just have a go at something new.
