Project outcomes

The main aim of the project is to produce an accessible text of the ‘foot voyage’ account found among the Aldersey papers.

A fully annotated modern-spelling edition will be published by Cambridge University Press, accompanied by a full introduction, biographical notes, a diplomatic transcription and a series of contextual essays written by the project team. An annotated old-spelling text will also be published in the online edition of the Cambridge Edition of the Works of Ben Jonson.

The team will also be working with the custodians and interpreters of some of the many places and historic sites mentioned in the account to explore the relevance and utility of the account, and other literary sources, for the interpretation and presentation of those sites.

Virtual 'foot voyage'

A virtual recreation of the journey, using a combination of blog posts, geo-mapping and Twitter, will commence on 8 July 2013. Extracts from the narrative, alongside detailed commentary and discussion of the character's and places, will raise awareness of the project and invite public participation and engagement.
