Working in Schools

Frieda Morrison has been busy behind the scenes working with music teacher, Sharon Hassan, and drama teacher, Maggie Hearne, in conjunction with Head Teacher Ruth Hassan at Oyne Primary School in Aberdeenshire.

The focus has been on creating a musical drama based on the song Johnny Sangster from the Greig-Duncan Folk Song Collection. The pupils will not only enact a specially written play featuring Gavin Greig and the Reverend James Bruce Duncan but will sing and play an arrangement of the song by Sharon Hassan during the entire presentation. The end product will be filmed and recorded at the school in late October then made into a DVD available for primary schools throughout the region as an example of what can be achieved taking an innovative approach to the material in the collection. It can be reported that the pupils are having a ball!
