University appoints First Gaelic Officer

As part of its forthcoming Gaelic Language Plan, the University has appointed Bria Mason as its first Gaelic Officer.

Bria is currently the Gaelic Development Officer for Highlands & Islands Enterprise, based in Stornoway, where she has been responsible for contributing to the development of all phases of their second Gaelic Language Plan (2012-15). Bria is also a graduate of the University, having qualified with a first-class degree in Celtic in 2009, before completing an MLitt in Language Policy and Planning from the University of Aberdeen in 2011.

Bria will be taking up her post on 4 February 2013. She will be based in Celtic & Scottish Studies at 27 George Square, but working within the central Student and Academic Services Group (SASG). Her principal responsibility will be to oversee the implementation of the University’s Gaelic Language Plan, reporting to the University’s Gaelic Language Plan Working Group.
