I work in the Learning and Teaching team supporting staff teaching development, especially tutoring and demonstrating. I manage and edit Teaching Matters.
I teach workshops for tutors and demonstrators on lecturing, teaching with technology, accreditation, pastoral and academic advice, supervising student research, and creative teaching. I am course organiser for the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice course ‘Working with Postgraduate Students’ and I am a mentor on the Edinburgh Teaching Award. I have published research on supporting tutors and have undertaken consultancy work for QAA Scotland.
Before joining the IAD, I taught English Literature and research methods at the University of York and the University of Edinburgh. I have also taught at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and at a number of universities in Ghana.
I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and a PhD in Women's Studies from the University of York. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
