I am unable to access Web of Knowlege

Information on a common problem with access to Web of Knowledge (WoK).

Your ability to log in successfully to WoK can be affected by the cache or cookies held locally on your own computer.

When trying to log in to WoK you may get an error message similar to below. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that this is how the problem will manifest itself:

An error occurred while processing your request. Please contact your helpdesk or user ID office for assistance.

This service requires cookies. Please ensure that they are enabled and try your going back to your desired resource and trying to login again.

Use of your browser's back button may cause specific errors that can be resolved by going back to your desired resource and trying to login again.

Why?

A cache contains copies of web pages, typically held on your computer.

Cookies are stored on your computer by websites to keep track of information about your activity on the site and to remember who you are.

Depending on a number of factors a combination or the local cache copies and cookies, or independant to each other, can interfere with the expected behavour of the WoK application.

This can manifest itself in different ways, for example, providing an error message when you try to log in or trying to push you through a log in route that you have previously used but may not work anymore, or remembering a previous unsuccessful log in session.

How do I resolve this?

WoK recommend that you clear the cookies and/or cache from your browser. More information can be found on WoK's own Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about this.

How to clear cookies from your browser

Instructions for different browsers can be found from WoK's own FAQs or from the support page for your specific browser.

Alternatively, you can search for instructions by using your preferred search engine.

Once you cleared the cookies and/or cache you should ensure you close your browser down completely.

When you open a new browser session your cookies and/or cache should have been cleared and you should try logging into WoK again.
