Description: Indexing and abstracting tool covering health, social services, psychology, sociology, economics, politics, race relations and education. Updated monthly, ASSIA provides a comprehensive source of social science and health information for the practical and academic professional. It contains records from over 500 journals published in 16 different countries, including the UK and US.

BFI InView

Access Information: Access on and off campus
Description: BFI InView is an online resource which offers a unique window on Britain’s changing political, economic and social landscape in the age of film and television.
Coverage: 1000 hours of non-fiction moving image titles from 1900 - 2005, alongside 8000 pages of related documents.
Further information: Everything can be downloaded for internal use within universities except the Parliamentary material where access is only via streaming.

Box of Broadcasts

Access Information: Access on and off campus
Description: BoB (Box of Broadcasts) enables all staff and students in subscribing institutions to choose and record any broadcast programme from 60+ TV and radio channels. The recorded programmes are then kept indefinitely (no expiry) and added to a growing media archive (currently at over 1 million programmes), with all content shared by users across all subscribing institutions.


IBSS (International Bibliography of Social Science) Online

Access information: Access on and off campus.
Description: Produced by the British Library of Political and Economic Science. One of the largest and most comprehensive social sciences databases in the world, indexing 2600 journals and 6000 books per annum, in the core disciplines of economics, sociology, politics and anthropology.
Coverage: From 1951 to date.

Media Education Foundation (MEF) digital films service

Access Information: Access on and off campus
Description: The Library has subscribed for 1 year to Media Education Foundation (MEF) digital films service. MEF produces and distributes documentary films and other educational resources to inspire critical thinking about the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media. The service is provided via the Kanopy streaming service.
Coverage: Library has access to 140 videos.

OECD iLibrary

Access information: Access on-campus. Access off-campus currently via VPN only.
Description: The iLibrary provides access to a substantial amount of free content, including the OECD Factbook, OECD Working Papers, Key Tables, Multilingual Summaries and most 'At a Glance' publications.
Alternative source: Not all content is subscribed to. An alternative source is the UK Data Service's UKDS.Stat service.

PAIS International

Description: This resource covers issues in the public debate through selective coverage of a wide variety of international sources including journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference papers, web content, and more. PAIS International is the current file covering 1972 to present. Topics covered include: Economic conditions, Education, Energy resources and policy, Government, Health conditions, Human rights, International Relations, Labor conditions and policy, Politics, Social conditions, Civil rights movement.

Political Science Complete

Description: Political Science Complete provides nearly 340 full-text reference books and monographs and more than 44,000 full-text conference papers, which includes those from the International Political Science Association. The database also provides a subject-specific thesaurus with more than 23,500 terms to provide subject searching guidance to researchers. Subject coverage includes comparative politics, humanitarian issues, international relations, law and legislation, non-governmental organizations and political theory.

Race Relations Abstracts

Description: Race Relations Abstracts covers the social, political and economic relations between races and ethnicities, including ethnic studies, discrimination and immigration studies. This indexing database contains more than 49,500 records selected from the most important sources within the discipline, such as : Race & Class, Ethnic & Racial Studies, Journal of Social Issues, with coverage from 1975.

Description: UK social care information: research briefings, reports, government documents, journal articles, and websites. Produced by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE). Updated daily.

SocINDEX with Full Text

Access information: Access on and off campus.
Description: SocINDEX with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive and highest quality sociology research database. The database features more than 2.1 million records with subject headings from a 20,000+ term sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for more than 860 journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for more than 830 books and monographs, and full text for over 16,800 conference papers.

Sociological Abstracts

Description: Primary resource for accessing the latest research in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Draws information from an international selection of over 2,600 journals and other serials publications, plus conference papers, books, and dissertations.
  Records added after 1952 contain in-depth and non-evaluative abstracts of journal articles.

UKOP Online

Access information: Available on and off campus.
Description: Catalogue of United Kingdom Official Publications on the World Wide Web, is the complete catalogue of all official publications including both Stationery Office publications and departmental or "non-Stationery Office" publications.
The Catalogue also contains the publications of many European and international organisations for which the Stationery Office is an agent. Regular updates add over 2,000 records to the database every month.
Coverage: From 1980 to the present.

Description: Citations and abstracts to millions of journal articles and conference proceedings from all subjects. Impact factors, h-indexes and email alerts available.
