Description: Indexes 13,000 journals in all disciplines. Many, but not all, records include an abstract. Now includes tables of contents, previously provided by the ContentsFirst service.

Bodleian Library Pre-1920 Catalogue of Printed Works

Access information: Single user CD-ROM workstation, Main Library.
Description: a CD-ROM catalogue of all printed works in European languages and scripts published before 1920 and acquired by the Bodleian Library in Oxford before 1989.

British Library General Catalogue of Printed Books to 1975

Access information: Single user CD-ROM workstation, Main Library.
Description: A catalogue of 5.7 million records including the largest collection of pre-1914 imprints in the world. Contains all entries for pre-1975 imprints acquired and catalogued by the British Library prior to 1976 and all pre-1971 imprints acquired and catalogued before the end of 1982.

English Short Title Catalogue

Access information: Access on and off campus. On campus access also available via FirstSearch.
Description: ESTC lists over 480,000 items published between 1473 and 1800 mainly, but not exclusively, in English that were published mainly in the British Isles and North America from the collections of the British Library and over 2,000 other libraries.
Coverage: 1473-1800.

EThOS - Electronic Theses Online Service

Access information: Access on and off-campus. Registration required for full-text access and there may be a delay of some days in receiving required copy.
Description: British Library service providing full text of thousands of UK Higher Education theses (free to staff and students of the University of Edinburgh).

Film & Sound Online (previously Educational Media Online (EMOL)

Access information: Available from EDINA On-campus choose: Login via direct access. Off-campus choose: Login via UK federation.
Description: Ten collections of film and video. The films are of high quality, and are fully downloadable, either in full or as segments, and can be used freely in learning, teaching and research. For example: (Culverhouse) Classical Music, Films of Scotland, Performance Shakespeare. Note that some medical titles are restricted.

Access information: Access on campus or off campus via VPN - Following recent technical problems on the Jstor website, access to books as well as journal content published in the most recent few years may be intermittent 15/10/15.
Description: Full-text journal archive service providing access to complete back runs of all the scholarly journals currently available in JSTOR. Recent volumes are excluded, usually the last 3-5 years, but each year a further year is added to the archive.
  Each title is listed in DiscoverED.
  The collections currently available are: Arts & Sciences 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14; Biological Sciences; Health & General Sciences; Ireland. The 19th Century British Pamphlets Collections is also available via JSTOR.

During October 2015, Shibboleth authentication will be removed while Jstor upgrade their platform. 

There is an issue with the display of navigation icons on the JSTOR platform via EZProxied links.

Description: Fully searchable online version of the Oxford English Dictionary the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language. Includes etymologies, quotations and pronunciation guides.

Description: Provides access to the British Library’s Electronic Table of Contents of approximately 29,000 current journals and more than 52 million article citations and conference papers. The database covers all subjects and is updated daily. Table of Contents alerts are available.
