There are two mail directories provided by Information Services. One is for staff and one is for students.
The staff directory contains email addresses for staff, research postgraduate students and functional aliases in the @ed.ac.uk domain. See this page for information on how to request your mail address be added to the directory e.g. for eTime.
The student mail directory contains email addresses for all students in the @sms.ed.ac.uk domain.
Searching the mail directories
Staff addresses can be searched using the search form at the top of each page on the University website. Student addresses can only be searched by first logging into the MyEd portal.
Mail directory policy
This policy was agreed by the then Communications and Information Technology Committee (C&IT) after the following paper was consulted on to create a policy to clean up the Edinburgh staff email directory so that we would move to the situation where all staff had a single personal mail alias in the staff directory.
