Knowledge Exchange Week 2016

The University of Edinburgh Library and Collections division is delighted to announce its first Knowledge Exchange Week to take place in summer 2016.

The programme is aimed at Library and Cultural Heritage Professionals from all backgrounds and career stages and we would invite applications from the Erasmus partner universities and other academic institutions across Europe.  This exciting summer programme will provide a unique opportunity to listen to speakers from across Library and University Collections and gain a hands on insight into the work that we do.  There will also be opportunity to visit other cultural institutions across Edinburgh and discover more about our beautiful city.  If you are interested in knowledge sharing and networking with international colleagues please read on.       


University of Edinburgh, Library and Collections Knowledge Exchange week will take place from the June 20th – June 24th 2016, running from Monday morning to Friday afternoon.


The programme will provide a general insight into the work of Library and University Collections staff, covering library services, special collections, archives, museums and galleries. There will also be visits to external institutions and sites out with the University of Edinburgh Main Library, which will act as a base for the week.  An optional evening programme will also be offered to provide you with a taste of Edinburgh.  The themes covered during the week will include*:

  • Collections, Conservation and Preservation
  • Engagement and Programming
  • Research and Teaching Resources
  • Estates Development and Collections Management Projects
  • Digitisation – Policies and Practices
  • Collection Discovery and Design
  • Open Access and Digital Repository Services 
  • Internationalisation

All applicants will be asked to highlight their own particular areas of interest and successful participants will be required to deliver two short presentations. One at the outset of the week introducing themselves and sharing one item of interest/project from their own institution and one during a closing session, sharing their thoughts and highlights of the week.

Applications for this year have now closed.

Costs and Accommodation

Participation in the scheduled programme is free of charge, with the exception of evening events which will be optional and where stated at participants own expense.  Accommodation and travel costs will also be at participants' own expense.   The University of Edinburgh will cover accommodation and reasonable travel costs for two early career participants, suitability to be noted in the application form.

Accommodation will be booked for all participants in Masson House, Edinburgh, which is located on the Pollock Halls Campus and close to the University’s Main Library.
