Examples from the Centre for Doctoral Training in Pervasive Parallelism
Informatics is well known for its close ties with industry, which not only ensure that our research is informed by real world case-studies – but also provide a source of diverse internship opportunities for our students. Our recently-established EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) are no exception.
Chris Cummins is the first student from the CDT in Pervasive Parallelism to do an internship. He is currently doing a 6-month placement with software tools developer Codeplay.
“I will be developing a research prototype for compile time scheduling of expression trees on graphics processing units and field programmable gate arrays. This project gives me a fantastic opportunity to contribute to future standards for heterogeneous parallelism, and has far-reaching applications from Google's TensorFlow to vision processing."
Adam Harries will also be starting an internship at Codeplay in June, working on the Parallel Standard Template Library (STL), to provide natural ways of exposing parallel programming in C++.
Many of the CDT’s other students have been invited to visit the offices of industry partners to give presentations about their work and receive feedback from professional engineers and developers.
The CDT in Pervasive Parallelism works with over 40 industry partners, global and local.
