South Asia Culture Politics and the Economy

Joint fourth year Honours and Masters course organised by the School of Social and Political Science. It offers a unique insight into South Asia with a special focus on India. South Studies 2A: History, Politics and People

This is a second year undergraduate course run by the Centre for South Asian Studies. It provides an introduction to the political, social and cultural issues in colonial and contemporary South Asia. The course draws on historical, political, sociological and anthropological research as well as on literature and film. SAS2A has been nominated for the EUSA teaching awards two years in a row.

South Asian Studies 2A taught course details

South Asian Studies 2B: Local and Global Identities

This half course run for second year undergraduates. It builds on SAS2A to provide a more rounded understanding of South Asia in general and India in particular. It explores issues of communalism, religion, caste, tribe, ethnicity, gender, kinship, development, politics and international relations in South Asia, at both the local and the global level. Along with SAS2A, this course has been nominated for the EUSA teaching awards two years in a row.
