Ethics procedures for Masters by Research, MPhil and PhD students

The responsibility for the oversight of ethics and research integrity for Postgraduate research students (PhD, MPhil and non-taught MSc) lies with supervisors. Self-evaluation ethics forms should be completed and submitted before the primary research commences.

Ethical issues should be discussed as part of the end-of-first year review. The ethics form should be completed with the end-of-first year review paperwork at the latest, and earlier if the research has commenced at an earlier date.

Self-evaluation ethics forms (Level 1) should be completed by students. Supervisors may also consult with Subject Area Ethics reps for advice as well as with the Chair of the School Research Ethics Committee.
