Mark Green

University Radiation Protection Adviser

Mark Green

Mark is a certified Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and a certified Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) and acts as the University’s legally appointed RPA and RWA.

Mark has a BSc (hons) degree in Applied Physics with Computing and is a Chartered member of the Society for Radiological Protection (CRadP). He is also a member of the Association of University Radiation Protection Officers (AURPO).

Mark joined the University in 2009 as the Assistant Radiation Protection Adviser before taking on the role of University RPA in January 2022

Duncan Ross

Assistant Radiation Protection Adviser

Duncan joined the University in June 2022 and is currently working towards certification as a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA).

Previously, Duncan has worked on a nuclear site and has a MSci in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. He is an associate member of both the Society for Radiological Protection and the Royal Society of Chemistry whilst working towards chartership.

Scott McLaughlin

Health and Safety Technical Assistant

Scott joined the department in January 2023. His role is split evenly with Occupational Hygiene and the Radiation Protection Unit.

He has an HND in Engineering Systems with renewable energies and SEMTA Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering Modern Apprenticeship qualification, as well as the IOSH 'Managing Safely' qualification. He has over 13 years of experience managing research laboratory facilities and working in mechanical workshops within The University of Edinburgh.

Scott is the department’s main Face Fit tester, providing training in respect of respiratory protective equipment and the Operator of the radiation instrument test facility. He is involved in a number of additional projects for both units, such as assisting with the management of the accident & incident reporting system, radiation leak testing and radiation waste uplift.
