Global Environment & Society Academy

About

The Masters Network is a hub for students studying across a broad range of Environment and Society Masters Programmes.

The network provides opportunities for our postgraduate students to develop their professional and personal skills, to network, collaborate and form peer support groups with other students both within and out with their research discipline, and enriches their experience of studying in Edinburgh through social activities.

We have over 20 MSc programmes associated with our Academy, which attract students from all over the world. Through an innovative programme of events that includes academic, social and career skills development, we aim to build a vibrant postgraduate community that enriches the student experience

The Masters Network enhances student experience and supports skill development in three ways:

Interdisciplinary Collaboration on Global Challenges

The network provides you with unique experiences of collaborating in activities that enable you to network with MSc students undertaking environmental programmes from a number of different disciplines across the university.

Our interdisciplinary MSc Reading Groups bring you together with their peers and leading University researchers. You are encouraged to develop critical thinking, communication and discussion skills to produce innovative thinking and responses to a variety of themes relating to Global Environmental Challenges.

Professional development

You will be provided with opportunities to extend your professional academic and transferable skills through formal events such as our ‘Researcher-Practitioner Mixer’ event, a day of research based discussions with pracitioners.

Encouraging an active student community

Our social activities at the beginning of the academic year aim to help you orientate yourself in Edinburgh and build strong peer support networks to help you feel part of our very welcoming learning community.
