Book submissions

Submissions for the James Tait Black Prizes for Fiction and Biography for works published in 2024.

The winners of the £10,000 awards will be announced in the late spring of the year following publication.

Eligibility

Eligible works of fiction and biography are those written in or translated into English and published in the calendar year of the award. Any book submitted should be available for purchase in the UK.

Submissions should state the exact date of publication. It helps the work of the assessors if submissions are sent as soon as possible after publication so that reading can be spread throughout the calendar year.

It would be extremely helpful to receive two copies of each submission.

There is no set limit to the number of eligible books that a publisher may submit for the two prizes.

Biography is understood to include autobiography, memoir, and other forms of life-writing.

Translations will be considered.

The nationality of the writer is irrelevant. Both prizes may go to the same author, but neither to the same author a second time.
