Summer Pre-sessional EAP

A range of Academic English courses for students who wish to improve their English prior to starting a programme at the University of Edinburgh.

Summer Pre-sessional EAP application deadline: 5th May 2017


English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP)

We offer two summer EGAP courses to help students develop the required English language skills. Students are grouped by language level.

English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP)

From mid-August, after the second EGAP course, students move to one of our 4-week ESAP courses. Each of these can also be taken as a stand-alone course.

For students beginning a Distance Learning Masters programme

If you have an unconditional place on one of the University's Distant Learning Masters programmes, you may be eligible for a new Online Pre-Sessional Academic Language course (OPAL).

Essential information

End of course English testing

Students are assessed at the end of their pre-sessional courses.

There is a recommended minimum English language study period when preparing for university entry.

BALEAP accreditation

ELTC Summer Pre-sessional courses are accredited by The British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) which inspects and accredits Academic English courses.
