James Sime

James Sime was rector of the Free Church Normal School in Edinburgh from 1855, succeeding James Fulton.

James Sime studied at Edinburgh University where he obtained his MA. For a period he was Assistant to the Professor of Natural Philosophy at Edinburgh University. A condition of his appointment was that he should spend some time visiting the Training College in Glasgow.

During his rectorship of the Free Church Normal School, Edinburgh, from 1855 to 1864, there were a number of developments to the School’s curriculum: a special Commentary on the parts of the Bible prescribed for study was developed and additional subjects added.

He was the author of a number of books including the ‘Manual of Religious Knowledge’.
