Theology has been studied at the University of Edinburgh since its foundation in 1583. Today our Graduate School offers the chance to engage with cutting-edge research in a wide range of areas, and attracts a diverse community of staff and students from around the world.

Postgraduate research

We offer two types of research degrees at the Masters level, as well as a PhD programme. Students choose their focus from one of our eight study areas.

Postgraduate taught

The School of Divinity offers a diverse range of postgraduate taught degrees and diplomas.


The Doctor of Ministry, awarded by Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, is now offered for the first time in collaboration with the Graduate School of Divinity.
