Lothian Stroke Team - shortlisted at the BMJ Awards 2015

Congratulations to the Lothian Stroke Team, who were shortlisted for the BMJ Imaging Team of the Year Award 2015, last night at the BMJ dinner, held in London.

The BMJ Awards are the UK's premier medical awards programme, recognising and celebrating the inspirational work done by doctors and their teams. All nominations reflected the BMJ's mission - to improve patient outcomes and showcase the very best healthcare in the UK.

The Lothian Stroke team were shortlisted for their work in engaging with local stroke physicians, emergency teams, nurses and imaging staff in secondary care to evaluate and modify the use of imaging in stroke to speed access to stroke diagnosis, treatment and prevention. These methods are now adopted by centres around the UK, benefiting 1,000's of patients each year by treating them quickly and correctly and therefore reducing the damage caused by the stroke and improving their quality of life.

The team were represented by Professor Joanna Wardlaw, Professor Martin Dennis and accompanied by Dr Andrew Farrall and radiographers from the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian (pictured above).

Well done to the three other teams that were short listed, and congratulations to the winners, Mercury II: Low Rectal Cancer, Pelican Cancer Foundation and The Royal Marsden.
