CBE for Professor Joanna Wardlaw

Jan 2016: Many congratulations to Professor Joanna Wardlaw, Head of Neuroimaging Sciences, who has been awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours 2016.

We would like to offer our sincere congratulations to Professor Joanna Wardlaw, who has been honoured with a CBE in the 2016 Queen's New Year Honours list for services to neuroimaging and clinical science.

Professor Wardlaw is internationally recognised for work on the pathophysiology of cerebral small vessel disease and brain ageing, and the pathophysiology and treatment of acute ischaemic stroke especially thrombolytic therapy, and the use of imaging to diagnose acute stroke.

Professor Wardlaw is Head of Neuroimaging Sciences at CCBS, as well as Director of the Brain Research Imaging Centre and Edinburgh Imaging. She is also a group leader at the Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology (CCACE).

This news has come as a surprise to me, but I am honoured and deeply humbled by it. It is great recognition for neuroimaging, cerebrovascular disease and ageing research, the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, the SINAPSE Collaboration and the University of Edinburgh. I particularly hope that the award will be motivating for women working in clinical academic medicine.
