Below you can find information for University staff wishing to take on an intern through the Employ.ed on Campus internship programme.

All Departments and Schools are eligible to participate in the programme.

Registrations of interest for the programme in summer 2017 have now closed. We will be opening up registrations of interest for 2018 later this year. Please contact the Internships Team for further information.

Writing a job specification

Managers are required to complete a job specification to allow the Careers Service to gain the necessary approvals and advertise the positions to students in February. Examples of previous internships and job specifications can be provided.

Programme support

The Internships Team at the Careers Service give guidance and support in all matters related to the programme, bringing interns together before, during and after the internship. This is combined with a framework to support the development of participants' employability and self-reflection throughout, and the opportunity to gain an Edinburgh Award as part of their internship.

The following events run by the Careers Service are compulsory for the interns and we request you give your intern time off to attend (more information about the events will be given at the Information Event for host managers on the 28th April).

1st June (unpaid) Induction Event
5th July (morning) Interim Event
26th July, 9th August or 23th August Final Presentation Event. Host Managers are invited to attend this event (date dependent on the length of the internship).
Lunchtime workshops (1 hour) Workshops will be run on topics including networking, workplace etiquette, CV writing, presentations skills and interview practice. These are not compulsory but we encourage interns to attend.

Dates  
By 30th November 2016 Email interest to the Internship Team to secure your place(s).
By 22nd December 2016 Scope projects and submit job specification(s) for the Internships Team to review.
By 9th January 2017 Send final job specification(s) to Internships Team.
1st - 19th February 2017 Internships will be advertised on MyCareerHub and promoted to students.
27th February 2017 The Internships Team will send applications received and shortlists to Host Managers for review.
27th February - 3rd March 2017 Host managers to shortlist from applications.
13th - 27th March 2017 Interviews take place. Departments are responsible for appointing their chosen intern on eRecruitment and liaising with HR to receive the contract.
4th May (9 -11am) 2017 Information Event for Host Managers.
5th June 2017 Interns start date.
