Funding for Internships

Internships should offer highly structured, graduate-level work and provide a useful insight into your business. They are valuable for both students and employers. University of Edinburgh students undertake internships during vacation periods.

The Careers Service runs a variety of internship programmes to support employers. We have funding and support available for SMEs and Third Sector employers who are looking to recruit University of Edinburgh students and graduates into internship positons in their organisation.

Employ.ed in an SME offers three-month full-time, or six-month part time, internships within SMEs. This is funded by the Santander Universities Internship Scheme.

More information on the Employ.ed in an SME programme

Most University of Edinburgh students are not required to undertake 6 - 12 month placements as part of their course.  Contact the employer team if you have an enquiry about placements for specific degree disciplines.

Advertising voluntary roles in Edinburgh

If you have voluntary roles based in Edinburgh, you can advertise through the students' association site,  Edinburgh University Students' Association volunteering.

The Students' Association volunteering offers students the opportunity to register their area of interest and where possible match that with a relevant opportunity or organisation.

Voluntary roles outside of Edinburgh are advertised on MyCareerHub.

Advertising with other Scottish Universities

A number of universities in Scotland use the Scottish Shared Vacancy Service (SVS). When you enter an opportunity at any one of these universities, you have the option to automatically post it to the rest. This service is free of charge and suitable for advertising internships and graduate jobs. The universities using this platform are Aberdeen, Abertay, Dundee, Edinburgh Napier, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Heriot Watt, Queen Margaret, Stirling, Strathclyde, St Andrews and West of Scotland. Currently Robert Gordon are not part of SVS and you will need to load vacancies via their own portal.
