Learning and Teaching Committee

The SBS Learning and Teaching Committee (LTC) committee was set up in September 2008 to oversee the quality, breadth and relevance of the learning and teaching of undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes within the School.

The committee considers all aspects of teaching, such as staffing, staff roles, peer reviews, Directors of Studies and student guidance, policies and guidelines, student recruitment, programmes, progression.

Taking the strategic goals of the university into consideration, the committee aims to:

  • consider the overall structure of the programmes across the school, and the constituent courses to provide the best learning environment for students within the school.
  • recognise and promote excellence in learning and teaching.
  • support innovation and the dissemination of good practice.
  • ensure that leadership and achievement in teaching are recognised.
  • learn from, and respond to, student feedback.
  • use our strengths in research, where possible, to underpin how and what we teach.

Strategies for achieving our objectives include:

  • ensuring that staff involved in the delivery of learning and teaching continue to develop their professional capability.
  • responding to recommendations identified through quality enhancement activities.
  • providing flexible and informed curriculum choice.
  • stimulating new and more flexible ways of learning, teaching and assessing through the use of new technologies and the innovative design of teaching space.
