Professor Michels is our Visiting Professor. He has taught and studied the causes of tropical diseases for over thirty years.
Professor Michels has 30 years’ experience in researching the metabolism of parasitic protists, which are the cause of a number of neglected tropical diseases.
In collaboration with structural biologists, he has succeeded in characterising candidate targets and tested the effect of inhibitors on the growth and metabolism of parasites.
Professor Michels has more than 40 years’ teaching experience and has been invited to participate in lecture courses in molecular parasitology in a number of countries.
He has also acted as an external examiner in biochemistry at several international universities.
He has held the position of Visiting Professor since 2007.
