Professor Malcolm Walkinshaw is the Chair of Structural Biochemistry and the Director of the Centre for Translational and Chemical Biology. He runs one module for Drug Discovery and Protein Biotechnology.
Professor Walkinshaw’s research is concerned with a number of different protein families and their potential use as structure-based drug design targets for disease indications such as cancer and infection.
Professor Walkinshaw runs the Research Grant Proposal for MSc Drug Discovery and Protein Biotechnology module.
He was based in Switzerland for 10 years, working for Novartis as the head of their Drug Discovery Group. He has strong links with a number of biotech companies in the UK and Europe.
