Shanghai fashion takes centre stage in iconic hall

Eye-catching outfits designed by students from Shanghai will be showcased at a futuristic fashion show in the University’s Playfair Library.

The historic venue will be transformed into a slick runway for the event, which takes place on Friday 25 August and Saturday 26 August as part of the Festival Fringe.

Striking designs

The cutting-edge collections were designed by students from Donghua University's Shanghai International College of Fashion.

Students were inspired by historic Chinese clothing to create a range of modern designs.

Fascinating exhibition

An exhibition of traditional dresses spanning from the 1840s until the 1940s will also be on display as part of the event.

The outfits – rarely seen outside of China – are on loan from the Shanghai Museum of Textile and Design.

Longstanding partnership

From Shanghai With Love has been organised by the University of Edinburgh’s Confucius Institute for Scotland in partnership with Donghua University's Shanghai International College of Fashion, jointly known as the Donghua Edinburgh Centre for Creative Industries (DECCI).

This Exhibition and Fashion Show is the first large scale public project from DECCI.

Edinburgh's relationship with Donghua University is longstanding. In 2014, the two institutions launched a scheme that offered Shanghai-based Fashion students the chance to study at Edinburgh College of Art for the final two years of their programme.
