Overview
Our Fair Trade, energy saving and waste reduction initiatives are supporting students in Edinburgh and Malawi to lead better lives.
Making life better for students
2009/2010 Achievements:
- Achieved Gold and Silver Standard in Green Tourism Business Scheme for all 2000 beds at Pollock Halls.
- Purchased 6 tonnes of Fairtrade rice and pulses from Malawi supporting nearly 70 children to attend school. Working with Just Trading Scotland.
- Free Shop: 7 tonnes of furniture and equipment that departing students had to leave behind, made available free to students in Freshers Week and to homeless people moving into housing. In partnership with Transition Edinburgh University, City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh University People & Planet and FreshStart.
