As a university gallery Talbot Rice has a lively programme of events; lectures, talks, tours, performances and workshops that complement the exhibitions and offer fresh ways to explore visual art.
In addition, the gallery welcomes all groups whatever your interests and background; school parties and visitors with special needs are particularly welcome. Please contact us to arrange a tailor made tour that suits you.

Saturday 12 May 12.30 - 1.30pm
David Williams, Head of Photography and Reader at Edinburgh College of Art will give an illustrated presentation of his work, addressing the notion of non-duality with particular reference to projects undertaken in Japan over recent years.
Saturday 12 May 2pm and Tuesday 15 May 10am
Sue Hawksley is an independent dance artist and bodywork therapist currently completing a PhD at Edinburgh College of Art. haptic_dance is performed by touch for an audience of one. Dances last 10 minutes and booking is essential.
Monday 14 May and Friday 18 May 10.30-11.30am
Cristiano Agostino, a history of art student, will lead a participatory session, inspired by yoga, highlighting the quiet and concentrated aspects of nothingness.
Monday 14 May 12.30 - 1.30am
A summative talk related to Concentrated Quiet will reflect Cristiano Agostino’s broader creative and academic practice and his choice of performance for this exhibition.
Tuesday 15 May 12.30 - 1.30pm
Following haptic_dance, Sue Hawksley will discuss the work and the artistic and academic questions it raises.
Wednesday 16 May - Thursday 17 May 10:30am
Ji-Hye Lee makes subtle and beautiful works by tracing incense across silk or rice paper; here she performs two new works into being.
Thursday 17 May 12.30 - 1.30pm
Senior lecturer in Japanese Studies and a photographer, Ian Astley will speak about the Buddhist understanding of emptiness and how it informs his photography.
Friday 18 May 1.00 - 2.00pm
Prof. Andrew Patrizio, a specialist in contemporary art with specific interest in the natural sciences, evolution and ethics, leads an informal tour of the gallery space to discuss the key themes of Unoccupied.
Friday 18 May / 5 - 7pm
An evening of closing events relating to the Master of Contemporary Art Practice’s shows, Level and Foyer.
