The University is working with Indian firm Zydus Cadilla Healthcare to develop clinical trials for a malaria vaccine.
Although malaria kills over a million people each year - many in sub-Saharan African - there is as yet no effective vaccine against the disease.
The University - in collaboration with cosmetics giant Zydus Cadilla - is seeking to agree clinical trials for a potential vaccine, an early step that could ultimately lead towards a vaccine entering production and saving many lives.

This is a very big deal. There is a lot of competition – and that means it takes a great deal of time to set up agreements and arrangements – but Edinburgh has good experience in this area.
