Global exchange

We offer two University-wide exchange programmes for students interested in studying abroad.

Students chatting

The ERASMUS (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) exchange is for students studying within the European Union.

The International Exchange Programme applies to students who wish to study outside of the European Union.

Most Edinburgh students go on exchange in their third year of study.

ERASMUS

ERASMUS enables students to undertake study and work placements within Europe for between three and 12 months.

The University has ERASMUS student exchange agreements with nearly 130 partner institutions in 23 European countries.

Exchange links for study placements are between departments rather than institutions, so where students can go will be dependent on what they study here at the University.

If you have any queries about ERASMUS, please contact Lesley Balharry.

International Exchange

The International Exchange Programme allows students to spend their third year at one of more than 50 leading partner institutions in North America, South America, Australasia or Asia.

The programme is open to all students from all Colleges except Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

If you have any queries about the International Exchange Programme, please contact Helen Leitch.
