The China Office was established in 2005 to support the University’s strategic relationship with China.
As well as identifying research links, collaborations have also been established that support teaching and cultural exchange.
Our collaborations are in subject areas as diverse as divinity, life sciences, medicine, arts, agriculture, engineering and computer sciences.
The University of Edinburgh has relationships with more than 50 top Chinese universities. These include the universities of Peking, Tsinghua, Renmin, Fudan and Xiamen, and the Beijing Film Academy amongst others.
The China Office maintains these relationships and assists with local arrangements to facilitate research symposiums. These have included those held with the Chinese People’s Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Peking University Health Centre and Guangzhou Medical University.
Other activities organized by the China Office have included the University of Edinburgh Beijing Graduation Ceremony, various high-level Edinburgh alumni events and the reception to celebrate the Beijing Olympic Games at the British Embassy.
Working closely with Chinese governmental organizations like the China Scholarship Council, the Ministry of Commerce, Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, the China Academy of Sciences, and RCUK is a key role of the office.
The China Office is managed by Dr Nini Yang and is located in Beijing.
