UKBA and International student visas
Following changes to the UK visa regulations, the UK Border Agency (UKBA) continues to recognise the University of Edinburgh as a top ranked institution, granting us ‘Highly Trusted Sponsor’ status.
The University of Edinburgh broadly welcomes these changes, which:
- enable the dependants of our international postgraduate students to work and have unrestricted access to the UK labour market
- permit our most exceptional postgraduate talent to remain in the UK for employment after graduation
- allow our international students to work part-time during their studies
- support our entrepreneurial international graduate students who wish to start their businesses in the UK and drive forward economic growth
The University of Edinburgh is proud to have been attracting the brightest and best students from around the world for over four centuries. This year is no different and we have the privilege of welcoming and working with over 9,000 international students from over 140 nations.

Visa guidance for students
